About this position
The University of British Columbia Climate Solutions Research Collective is accepting applications for the 2026–2027 Solutions Scholars Program. This is a fellowship-style opportunity for UBC Masters and PhD students who want to apply their research skills to real-world climate challenges through the Future Canada Initiative.
Selected Solutions Scholars will work with interdisciplinary author teams to help produce a national report on pathways to a prosperous low-carbon future. Research areas include passenger transportation, medium and heavy-duty transportation, buildings, forestry and agriculture, clean power, and heavy industry including oil and gas. Cross-cutting themes include justice, finance, material demands, and health implications.
Responsibilities include background research, literature review, participation in convening sessions, summarization of expert dialogue, data synthesis, and report writing. The program also includes professional development, training, and networking as part of a cohort experience.
Funding: Scholars receive a $12,000 stipend for the 12-month term (July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027), with an estimated workload of about 280 hours across the year.
Eligibility: Applicants must be Masters or PhD students at UBC Vancouver or UBC Okanagan and registered in a UBC program for the full term. The call values interdisciplinary research experience, strong communication skills, academic excellence, and commitment to climate change research. Sector-specific skills in transportation, buildings, forestry/agriculture, clean power, GIS, and industrial decarbonization are especially relevant.
How to apply: Submit the application form, upload a four-page academic CV, and arrange for your research supervisor to confirm support by email. The deadline is May 17, 2026 at 11:59 PM. An information session is scheduled for May 4, 2026, 4–5 PM PST on Zoom.
