About this position

Leiden University is offering the CEU Praesidium Libertatis Scholarship for recent graduates of Central European University (CEU) who want to pursue a 1-year master's programme in the Netherlands.

The scholarship supports eligible students in programmes related to International Relations, Public Administration, Political Science, European Law, European and International Human Rights Law, International Dispute Settlement and Arbitration, and Public International Law. The scholarship is intended for outstanding students whose academic interests connect to social change, good governance, the rule of law, and/or international cooperation.

Funding: full scholarship for up to 12 months, including a tuition fee waiver, monthly stipend of €1,500, insurance coverage for health/travel/stay, and reimbursement of the student residence permit fee up to €350. It cannot be combined with another full scholarship.

Eligibility: applicants must be currently registered at CEU, expect to obtain their degree in the academic year before the Leiden master's starts, and hold a passport from one of the listed eligible countries/nationalities (including Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, or Ukraine).

How to apply: first apply online for admission to an eligible master's programme at Leiden University. After submitting the admission application, return to the portal, open the Scholarships section, and indicate that you want to apply for the CEU Praesidium Libertatis scholarship. Upload the scholarship motivation letter, CEU transcript of records, reference letter from a CEU (assistant) professor, and CV.

Deadline: complete both the admission and scholarship application by 2026-02-01. Online interviews for shortlisted candidates are scheduled for 2026-02-25.

Funding details
