About this position
China Scholarship Council-UCL Joint Research Scholarship at University College London supports prospective PhD researchers in priority areas, especially Mathematical & Physical Sciences and Education (IOE, UCL's Faculty of Education and Society), with additional awards available in other CSC-priority subjects.
This is a co-funded research scholarship for citizens and permanent residents of the People’s Republic of China who are first-year MPhil/PhD applicants starting on or after 1 October 2026. Applicants must hold an unconditional UCL offer, meet UCL academic entry requirements, and demonstrate a high level of English language proficiency. Candidates must also satisfy CSC eligibility rules and return to China after completing their studies/research.
Funding includes full UCL tuition fees for the standard full-time MPhil/PhD duration (normally 3 years, or 4 years for integrated doctoral programmes subject to progress), plus CSC support for economy travel to and from the UK, visa application fees, and an annual living allowance of £1,350 per month.
Application routes differ by area: Mathematical & Physical Sciences applicants must apply for the Faculty Dean's Prize scheme; IOE applicants submit documents to [email protected]; and other subject areas must first apply for the UCL Research Excellence Scholarship (RES) before CSC co-funding. Deadlines are 9 January 2026 for other subject areas and 14 January 2026 for Mathematical & Physical Sciences and IOE.
