China Scholarship Council Study Abroad Scholarships 2026

China Scholarship Council Study Abroad Scholarships are government-backed outbound funding schemes administered by the China Scholarship Council (CSC). These programmes are designed primarily to support Chinese citizens who wish to undertake degree study, joint training, visiting study, or research abroad at overseas universities and research institutions.

The CSC runs a range of study-abroad scholarship categories rather than one single universal award. Depending on the specific call, funding may support Master's, PhD, or postdoctoral study, as well as visiting scholars and joint doctoral training. The exact benefits vary by scheme and host destination, but CSC awards commonly contribute toward items such as tuition, living support, international travel, and sometimes other approved study-related costs.

Eligibility usually depends on the particular CSC programme, the applicant's academic level, nationality status, host institution arrangements, and nomination route. In most cases, applicants are Chinese nationals applying through their home university, employer, local education authority, Chinese embassy/consulate channel, or an institutional cooperation agreement. Some schemes require an admission letter or invitation from an overseas host institution before application.

Applications are generally made through the CSC online system together with submission of supporting documents to the relevant nominating authority. Applicants should check the current annual CSC study-abroad call for the correct category, eligible destinations, required documents, language expectations, and timelines. Because CSC administers multiple outbound scholarship streams, funding scope, duration, and requirements can differ significantly between programmes.

Students interested in these scholarships should review the official CSC notices carefully and coordinate early with their current institution or sponsoring unit to confirm nomination procedures, document requirements, and host-country admission arrangements.
