About this position

DKFZ Postdoctoral Fellowships at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, Germany invite outstanding early-career scientists to join a highly competitive postdoctoral program in cancer research.

The fellowship supports research across cancer research, bioinformatics, computational biology, biomedicine, oncology, epidemiological research, and cancer prevention. DKFZ offers access to more than 100 research divisions, an international and collaborative environment, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with leading experts in basic, computational, translational, and prevention-oriented research.

Selected fellows receive a two-year full-time employment contract (TV-L E13) and can benefit from mentoring, professional development, scientific exchange, and networking designed to support the transition to research independence. In 2026, up to seven fellowships will be awarded.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold or expect to obtain a qualification equivalent to a PhD; if the degree is still pending after the deadline, the doctoral thesis must be submitted by 2026-10-31. The PhD must have been awarded no more than two years before the application deadline. Applicants should demonstrate strong scientific publications. External applicants are especially encouraged, while current DKFZ employees are only eligible if they joined after 2026-06-01.
