This PhD project sits at the intersection of management sciences, business, organizational studies, business ethics, and responsible AI. The research examines how AI agents, AI-mediated processes, and platform algorithms reshape co-creation, moral questions, and business models in creative industries. The project focuses on human, hybrid, and automated practices in settings such as media, gaming, music, arts, and design.
The successful candidate will conduct ethnographic fieldwork with employees, freelancers, and studios; refine research questions with the supervision team; prepare ethics, data-management, and open-science materials; complete a doctoral thesis and related outputs; and participate in teaching, training, dissemination, and practitioner engagement. The role also includes collaboration with an industry partner and an academic mobility visit within the EMANAIRE network.
The position is a four-year, full-time doctoral scholarship (48 months). The scholarship is currently EUR 3755/month and includes employee healthcare, pension, and holiday contributions under the Finnish university salary system. The expected start date is 1 February 2027 or by agreement. The work location is Helsinki, Finland, with an expectation to be present at the department at least three working days per week during the academic year.
Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a relevant master’s degree or equivalent and meet Hanken’s PhD admission requirements. Strong qualitative research skills are required, especially ethnography, interviews, observation, or longitudinal qualitative research. Interest in creative industries and excellent academic writing and communication skills in English are important. MSCA eligibility rules apply, including the mobility rule and the requirement not to already hold a doctoral degree.
