About this position

Fully funded joint PhD scholarship available between the University of Melbourne and KU Leuven in AI, Generative AI, customer service, service technologies, technology adoption, organizational strategy, and the future of work.

The project investigates why GenAI initiatives fail in organizations and what helps them succeed, with a strong focus on shaping the future of customer service with AI. Possible research directions include GenAI in customer service, service marketing, technology adoption, organizational design, customer experience, AI-enabled service environments, and the impact of AI on work practices.

Applicants with backgrounds in Marketing, Artificial Intelligence, Service Research, Organizational Strategy, Business, Management, Information Systems, or related areas are encouraged to apply. Candidates should meet the entrance requirements of both universities, including a weighted average mark of 80. Strong analytical and research skills are highly valued, and preference will be given to applicants with a strong academic background in marketing, interest in AI and service technologies, and ambition to publish in leading academic journals.

Funding includes a fully funded tax-free scholarship for four years, tuition fee waiver, health and travel insurance, relocation allowance, and a minimum 12-month research stay at the partner institution. The award leads to two testamurs as part of the joint PhD arrangement.

Deadline: 31 August 2026. Anticipated start date: October 2026 to March 2027.
