About this position

Fully funded PhD opportunity in biology at the Institute of Genetics and Animal Biotechnology, Polish Academy of Sciences in Poland.

The project is aimed at candidates with a Master’s degree in biology, biotechnology, animal science, physiology, or a related field who want to build research experience in molecular biology, metabolism, physiology, animal science, bioinformatics, and biological data analysis.

The PhD research investigates the relationship between iron metabolism and omega-3 fatty acid metabolism and their possible effects on health. The work includes laboratory and analytical methods such as animal experiments, blood analysis, oxidative stress and inflammatory marker analysis, tissue iron profiling, fatty acid profiling, cell-line experiments, primary hepatocyte studies, siRNA gene silencing, Western blotting, immunofluorescence, gene expression analysis, protein expression analysis, and preparation of scientific publications.

Funding includes a monthly doctoral scholarship of PLN 5,000 gross for years 1–2 and PLN 6,500 gross for years 3–4 after successful mid-term evaluation. Additional benefits mentioned are 40 days of annual leave and access to doctoral accommodation at preferential rates.

Eligibility highlights include a Master’s degree, basic knowledge of molecular biology and physiology, strong motivation, and preferably hands-on experience in cell culture, molecular biology, animal research, or biological data analysis. The English requirement is CEFR B2; the post notes that an IELTS certificate is not necessarily required if other accepted proof is provided.
