About this position

Doctoral scholarship opportunity at the Institute of Genetics and Animal Biotechnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poland for a PhD student working on the project “The crosstalk between iron and omega-3 fatty acids metabolic networks: dietary health benefits and risks”, led by Dr. Magdalena Ogłuszka.

The project explores how iron metabolism and omega-3 fatty acid metabolism interact and how these interactions influence whole-body homeostasis, oxidative stress, membrane properties, ferroptosis, and metabolic disease-related processes. The research combines physiology, molecular biology, genomics, bioinformatics, and in vitro work, with experiments in mouse and piglet models, plus cell-line and primary hepatocyte studies.

Tasks include participation in animal experiments, biochemical and molecular analyses, tissue iron and fatty-acid profiling, bioinformatic analysis, siRNA-mediated gene silencing, Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and preparation of scientific publications.

Eligibility highlights: a Master’s degree in biology, biotechnology, animal science, or a related field; basic knowledge of molecular biology and physiology; strong motivation for research; teamwork and organisational skills; and English at B2 level. Laboratory experience in molecular biology, cell culture, animal work, or data analysis is desirable.

Funding: a doctoral scholarship for 4 years, with PLN 5,000 gross/month in years 1–2 and PLN 6,500 gross/month in years 3–4 after the mid-term evaluation. Additional benefits include 40 days of annual leave and access to accommodation at preferential rates in the doctoral residence on campus.

Application window: 13–27 August 2026. Send a motivation letter, CV, Master’s diploma or expected graduation information, consent form, and reference contacts by email to [email protected] and [email protected]. Use the subject line “MAGOGL Candidate; Applicant’s full name”. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview by email.
