About this position
The International Max Planck Research School for Condensed Matter Science (IMPRS-CMS) in Stuttgart, Germany is inviting applications for multiple fully funded PhD positions. The school is based at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in cooperation with the University of Stuttgart, offering a structured doctoral training environment in English.
IMPRS-CMS brings together more than 40 internationally recognized group leaders and offers research projects across a broad interdisciplinary spectrum of condensed matter science. Topics include quantum materials, electronic structure and quantum many-body theory, nanoscience, solid-state spectroscopy, solid-state ionics and batteries, bioinspired materials, quantum electronics, organic electronics, and ultracold atomic gases. The program is designed for students interested in fundamental research with strong connections to advanced materials, physical phenomena, and modern theory and experiment.
The positions are fully funded and include additional support for scientific meetings and trainings, with no tuition fees. Students also benefit from individual supervision, co-supervision, mentoring, and a vibrant international research environment with excellent on-campus support such as technical facilities, workshops, PhD representation, visa and residence permit support, and children’s day care.
Applicants should have an MSc or equivalent degree, typically with a strong background in physics, chemistry, mathematics, materials science, or computer science. A strong commitment, basic knowledge of solid-state science, and good English are required. Candidates with an outstanding BSc degree may apply for a fast-track PhD.

Funding details
