About this position

KU Leuven’s Department of Chemistry is recruiting PhD fellows for doctoral projects across its research groups, supported by departmental FLOF funds.

The department spans several research divisions, including Sustainable Chemistry for Metals and Molecules, Polymer Chemistry and Materials, Molecular Visualization and Photonics, Biochemistry and Molecular and Structural Biology, and Quantum and Physical Chemistry. This makes the opportunity relevant for candidates interested in chemistry, materials science, biochemistry, molecular biology, physical chemistry, and related areas.

Applicants must have a supervisor affiliated with the Department of Chemistry. A Master’s degree with at least distinction is required, and candidates must attach transcripts of their BA and MA results. The post also requires participation in the annual selection round for FWO (SB or FR) specialisation grants. For teaching duties in Dutch-language BA courses, a strong command of Dutch is needed: Dutch must be the native language or the applicant must have at least C1 level, and at least one supervisor with strong Dutch knowledge must be present during practicals.

The scholarship is offered for one year and is renewable once. The position is based at KU Leuven in Leuven, Belgium. Applications are submitted through the university’s online application system by 21 October 2026 at 23:59 CET.
