PhD opportunity: Climate Mitigation – Renewable Energy and Green Economy Transition at the University of Waikato, Hamilton Campus, New Zealand.
This doctoral project examines how renewable energy can be delivered at the scale and pace needed for a transition to a green and circular economy, with a comparative focus on New Zealand, Oman, and the United Kingdom. The research highlights regulatory framework barriers to the rollout of solar and wind energy generation and connects directly to Oman Vision 2040, energy security, sovereignty, and sustainable development.
The project is supervised by Professor Trevor Daya-Winterbottom and draws on expertise from Te Piringa Faculty of Law and the Centre for Environmental, Resources, and Energy Law at Waikato, with additional collaboration from the Department of Land Economy and the Centre for Environment, Energy and Natural Resource Governance at Cambridge. The student may be based in Cambridge for up to 6 months.
This opportunity is intended only for applicants eligible for the Omani Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation scholarship pathway. Funding through that pathway includes a premium stipend and tuition fees covered for up to four years. No university, supervisor-held, or project-specific funding is available outside the scholarship route.
