About this position

PhD opportunity at the Centre for Polymers and Composites (CPC), WMG, University of Warwick, on engineering polymers and composites.

The project, ENFORM, investigates environmental effects on the long-term mechanical performance of short-fibre-reinforced thermoplastics. Research topics include polymer physics, polymer composites, materials characterisation, mechanical performance, ageing, creep, fatigue, and machine learning. The work will study hydrolytic and thermo-oxidative ageing in matrices such as polyamides, polyphenylene sulphide, and isotactic polypropylene, and will develop physics-assisted AI models to predict property evolution over time.

The studentship is sponsored by the Dutch Polymer Institute (DPI) and offers a full stipend plus UK tuition fee coverage. It is a full-time PhD for four years at the prevailing UKRI rate.

Applicants should normally hold a good 2:1 undergraduate degree and/or a relevant master's degree in a science and technology field such as Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Manufacturing, Physics, or Chemistry. Experience with polymers or composites is helpful but not required. The advert welcomes motivated candidates interested in interdisciplinary research and working with world-leading facilities and international industrial scientists.

Location: Coventry, University of Warwick, United Kingdom.

Deadline: 7 September 2026.
