About this position
BI Norwegian Business School is inviting applications for a four-year PhD Candidate position in Marketing, starting in August 2027, at its campus in Oslo, Norway. The position is hosted by the Department of Marketing, an internationally oriented and research-intensive environment with faculty publishing in leading journals such as the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, and Marketing Science.
This PhD opportunity is aimed at candidates with strong academic backgrounds in business, economics, psychology, statistics, or related fields. The programme combines doctoral coursework, independent research, and teaching duties equivalent to 25% of a full-time professor position. Successful candidates will receive close supervision and follow-up from the research faculty.
Eligibility highlights: applicants must have completed, or expect to complete by early summer 2027, a two-year MSc with thesis work, a research Master's or MPhil, or an equivalent degree relevant to Marketing. Final-year Master's students are encouraged to apply. An MBA does not meet the admission requirement, and BI requires a two-year Master's programme with an average grade of B or higher. Applicants normally need TOEFL 90 iBT or IELTS 6.5, although exemptions/waivers may apply in specific cases.
Funding: the PhD scholarship follows the Norwegian State Salary Scale and is currently NOK 623,200 per year (subject to adjustment in 2027). The position is full-time and includes BI's collective pension scheme.
Application materials include degree certificates and transcripts, Diploma Supplement or equivalent documentation, a 5–10 page research proposal, CV, at least two recommendation letters, documentation of doctoral-level courses if relevant, a list of publications and academic activities, a signed verification document, and TOEFL/IELTS documentation unless a waiver applies. If generative AI is used in the proposal or other submitted text, it must be disclosed and cited.
Deadline: 1 December 2026. Start date: 16 August 2027. Applications must be submitted through BI's electronic application platform; email submissions are not accepted.
