About this position

Copenhagen Business School (CBS), Department of Accounting, is inviting applications for a PhD scholarship in accounting and artificial intelligence. The project sits within the field of either financial accounting, management accounting and control, or auditing, and is situated in one of Europe’s oldest and largest accounting departments.

The department highlights a strong and growing research environment spanning financial accounting, management accounting and control, sustainability accounting, auditing, and corporate governance. The position welcomes both quantitative and qualitative research approaches and encourages work on challenges affecting both private and public sector contexts. CBS aims to provide an international, research-intensive environment with strong opportunities for academic development and societal impact.

The PhD programme is three years long and includes research training, supervision by CBS associate professors and professors, and participation in international conferences. PhD students are expected to spend time at another research institution as a visiting PhD student. CBS PhD graduates are valued in academia, research institutions, government, and business.

Funding and employment: the scholarship is fully salaried under the Danish collective agreement. It includes a monthly salary of approximately DKK 30,264 to DKK 36,877 depending on seniority, plus a pension contribution of 18.07%. The scholarship also covers tuition fees, office space, and course and travel costs according to CBS agreement. Teaching obligations correspond to 416 work hours.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a master’s degree or equivalent, have a strong thesis grade, meet CBS grade requirements or be in the top 40% of the class, have completed the master’s before starting, and demonstrate high-level academic English in writing and speaking. A five-page project description is required, outlining an original research question, theoretical framework and method, empirical material, and a three-year work plan.

Application deadline: 11 November 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Copenhagen). Applicants should submit all materials through the online application system and may contact Head of Department Carsten Rohde or PhD coordinator Peter Skærbæk in advance to be connected with a relevant colleague.
