About this position

PhD scholarship in Catalytic CO₂ Conversion to Carbon Nanotubes at DTU Physics in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark.

This PhD project explores a new route for carbon utilization: converting captured CO₂ directly into carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The research combines catalysis, materials science, physics, and nanotechnology with advanced electron microscopy and operando X-ray characterization.

You will join the Catalysis and Operando Characterization (CATOC) group at DTU and work in collaboration with Leipzig University. The project includes development of mono- and multimetallic catalyst materials based on metal silicates, catalytic testing under realistic conditions, investigation of CNT growth and catalyst regeneration, and structure-activity relationship studies.

The position is aimed at candidates with a strong background in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, physics, nanotechnology, or a related field. Experience with catalysis, materials synthesis, electron microscopy, or characterization techniques is an advantage. A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS) or equivalent is required.

This is a 3-year full-time PhD scholarship with salary according to DTU’s collective agreement and scientific staff salary structure. The post does not state a specific stipend amount.

Deadline: 19 November 2026. Start date: 1 March 2027 or by mutual agreement.

How to apply: Submit the online application through DTU’s portal and upload one PDF in English containing a motivation letter, CV, and transcripts plus BSc/MSc diploma with grading scale description. Applications after the deadline will not be considered.
