About this position

PhD scholarship opportunity at Flinders University in end-of-life care education for acute hospitals.

This project will examine the impact of the End-of-Life Essentials for Acute Hospitals national workforce development initiative on clinical practice in acute care settings. The research will explore how healthcare professionals engage with online learning and how education influences knowledge, confidence, behaviours, and practice change. It will also identify factors affecting translation of learning into practice and help inform future workforce development initiatives.

Funding: The scholarship provides a tax-free stipend of $36,061 per year (2026 rate) for 3.5 years, plus a Research Training Program Fee Offset Scholarship covering tuition fees for eligible Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens, and permanent residents. A mandatory 60-day industry internship with a research end-user organisation is included.

Eligibility: Applicants must be Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens, or permanent residents, and meet PhD admission requirements. This includes an Australian Honours degree Class 1 or 2A (or equivalent AQF Level 8 qualification) with a research component of at least 6 months full-time study achieving Distinction (75%), or equivalent research experience such as a substantial first-author refereed publication or competitive grant involvement. Candidates must be able to commence as a full-time PhD student at Flinders University.
