About this position
Flinders University is advertising a PhD scholarship linked to the End-of-Life Essentials General Practice initiative in Australia. The project sits within a national program developing an accredited online continuing medical education program to strengthen end-of-life care capability in Australian general practice.
The successful PhD candidate will investigate the co-design, development, and early implementation of the program, working with GPs and other stakeholders. Research interests include end-of-life care, general practice, advance care planning, symptom management, early identification, care coordination, medical education, and implementation-focused health services research.
Funding: The scholarship provides a tax-free stipend of $36,061 per year (2026 rate) for 3.5 years, plus a Research Training Program Fee Offset Scholarship covering tuition fees for eligible Australian Citizens, New Zealand Citizens, and Permanent Residents. The award also includes a mandatory 60-day industry internship with a research end-user organisation.
Eligibility: Applicants must be Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens, or permanent residents. They must meet PhD admission requirements, including an Australian Honours degree Class 1 or 2A or equivalent (AQF Level 8) with a substantial research component, or equivalent research experience such as a first-author refereed publication or competitive grant track record. Full-time PhD commencement at Flinders University is required.
How to apply: Prospective applicants should first email Dr Caroline Phelan to discuss interest and eligibility. If invited, submit a CV and covering letter. Scholarship applications are then emailed to Vanessa Heading. Applicants without HDR admission must submit a separate HDR application and ensure the supervisor confirmation specifically refers to this scholarship.
