RMIT PhD Scholarship

RMIT University’s Centre for Nature Positive Solutions (CNPS) is advertising PhD scholarships for 2026 in a broad interdisciplinary environmental research portfolio. The call is aimed at candidates interested in ecology, environmental science, social science, restoration, carbon innovation, spatial science, environmental technology, and nature-based solutions.

The listed project themes include Human Dimensions of Restoration & Climate Action, Plastic Pollution, Microbial Adaptation & Environmental Justice, Coastal Wetland Restoration, Biodiversity Passive Acoustic Monitoring, Climate-Smart Solutions for Agriculture, Restoration & Carbon Innovation, plus related topics such as nature markets and stewardship, temperate grassland carbon, and methane reduction in rice.

CNPS describes itself as a multidisciplinary team working on climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, ecosystem degradation, conservation, restoration, and management of ecosystems. The centre highlights expertise in ecology, biogeochemistry, microbiology, environmental economics, remote sensing, social science, mapping, and modelling.

Funding: The RMIT PhD Scholarship is competitive and may provide a stipend of AUD 36,245 per year, tuition fee support for up to 3.5 years, and Overseas Student Health Cover subject to eligibility. Scholarships are open to domestic and international applicants.

How to apply: Interested applicants should first contact the relevant supervisor and submit an Expression of Interest (EOI). The EOI should include a short cover letter, CV with two academic referees, language test score if applicable, and academic transcripts. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and shortlisted candidates will be endorsed to apply for the RMIT PhD Scholarship scheme.

Deadlines shown in the post: For international students, EOI deadline is 2026-08-30 and full application deadline is 2026-09-30. For Australian domestic students, EOI deadline is 2026-09-30 and full application deadline is 2026-10-30.
