About this position

PhD studentship at Oxford Brookes University, hosted by the School of Architecture, through the AD[A]PT (Architectural Design And Humanities Promoting Transformation) Consortium AHRC Doctoral Focal Award.

This opportunity supports research in architecture, urban planning, public health, environmental science, art, and related design-led arts and humanities approaches. The project vision focuses on identifying barriers to creating healthy places and developing strategies to overcome them, with themes including healthy urban places, green spaces, cultural heritage, regenerative practice, homes and housing, governance, life and fire safety, healthy buildings, and healthcare environments.

The studentship is full-time for 3.5–4 years and is described as fully funded. Funding includes a stipend of £21,805 per annum and tuition fees up to the home student rate, plus bench fees. International candidates may need to cover the difference between home and international tuition fees, and visas/associated costs are not covered.

Applicants should have a first or upper second-class honours degree or an acceptable equivalent qualification. International/EU applicants must have a valid IELTS Academic (or equivalent) with an overall minimum score of 6.0 and no score below 5.5 from the last 2 years. The project must use suitable arts and humanities methods to be eligible for funding.

You can apply via either an Open Call or a Set Brief; both routes are equally considered. The deadline is 13 January 2027, 5pm GMT. For queries, contact [email protected].
