About this position

PhD Studentship in Computational Chemistry Driven Design of Improved Thermal Batteries at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.

This industrially sponsored PhD project, partnered with AWE, focuses on using state-of-the-art computational chemistry to understand structure-property relationships in thermal batteries and to guide the discovery of new and improved battery materials. The work is based in the School of Chemistry and an active, well-resourced research group with brand new state-of-the-art laboratories.

Eligibility: Applicants should have or expect to achieve at least a 2.1 honours degree or equivalent at Bachelors or Masters level in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or a related discipline. Strong analytical and creative thinking, good computer skills, and strong English presentation/writing skills are required. Prior research experience and computer modelling experience are desirable but not essential.

Funding: Fully funded for 3.5 years, with a tax-free annual stipend (currently £21,805) plus UK home-rate fees (currently £5,238). Due to funding restrictions, the studentship is only open to applicants who qualify for the UK home fees rate.
