About this position
A fully funded PhD studentship is available at the University of Warwick within the Quantum Device Modelling Group. The project sits at the intersection of quantum physics, materials engineering, and nanoelectronics, with a strong emphasis on understanding and designing electronic transport in molecular-scale systems for energy conversion applications.
The research aims to exploit the electronic properties of nanoscale materials to discover and design new materials for nanoelectronic applications. Core topics include quantum transport through single molecules, self-assembled monolayers, graphene nanoribbons, and van der Waals heterostructures, with a view toward functional quantum devices and next-generation energy harvesting technologies.
The successful candidate will receive broad training in computational materials modelling and advanced quantum transport simulation methods. The project offers the opportunity to work on a vibrant, high-publication-potential research programme and to collaborate with leading experimental groups in the UK, Europe, and beyond.
Funding is comprehensive: the award covers full tuition fees and provides a tax-free stipend of £21,805 for 3.5 years of full-time study, at the prevailing UKRI rate. The studentship is open to both UK and international students.
Eligibility highlights include a first-class or 2.1 Bachelor’s degree, or a Master’s degree, in physical science or engineering disciplines, plus a strong interest in computational materials modelling. Experience with molecular-scale simulation is desirable but not essential.
