About this position

[Full studentships covering tuition fees and stipend; four-year doctoral training initiative funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council Doctoral Focal Award scheme. One overseas scholarship is available for this October entry.]

The Consortium for Researching Inclusive Cultures in the Arts (CRICA) offers a four-year PhD studentship at the University of Roehampton in collaboration with LSE and partner performing/participatory arts organisations.

This is a doctoral training opportunity focused on research into the making of inclusive cultures, practices, and spaces in the arts, with a specific emphasis on the intersection of disability and the creative economy in the performing or participatory arts sectors.

Successful candidates will join a structured CRICA training programme and gain access to embedded placements, as well as a research community spanning Roehampton, LSE, and arts-sector partners.

Funding is a full studentship, covering tuition fees and stipend. The programme is supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council Doctoral Focal Award scheme. One overseas scholarship is available for this October entry.

Applicants should submit through the University of Roehampton online application portal or LSE’s equivalent Graduate Portal. The personal statement must explicitly state that the application is for CRICA. Candidates are required to contact a potential supervisor at Roehampton and/or LSE before applying to discuss the proposed project.

The deadline is 03 December 2026. The opportunity is based in London, with activity across campus and partner organisations. The programme particularly welcomes applications from disabled candidates and from individuals under-represented in the arts and academia.
