About this position

ADR UK / ESRC is calling for PhD studentships using linked administrative data in the United Kingdom.

This funding call supports up to 30 fully funded studentships for projects that use ADR UK flagship datasets to answer priority policy questions in areas such as education, justice, employment, health, and related social science topics.

The opportunity is aimed at ESRC Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTPs) and their PhD supervisors. Proposals must be based in an ESRC DTP institution, and each proposal must use at least one existing ADR UK flagship dataset. The studentships can follow a 1+3.5, 3.5, or 4.5 year structure depending on the pathway.

This is a supervisor/DTP-led call: supervisors apply through the DTP Director using Form A and Form B for each studentship. Each DTP can host up to 5 studentships. Student recruitment happens only after awards are announced.

Deadline: DTP deadline to ADR UK is 15 September 2026 at 16:00. Successful studentships are expected to be announced in January 2027, with PhD students starting in October 2027.

If you are a supervisor in an ESRC DTP, contact your DTP office first to confirm the internal deadline, then submit the application to adr [email protected].
