About this position
Karolinska Institutet is advertising a postdoctoral scholarship in microbiome and bacterial infections at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge, Campus Flemingsberg, Sweden. The position is in Dr. Shilpa Ray’s team within Anders Sönnerborg’s research group at the Centrum for Infectious Medicine (CIM), subunit Clinical Infectious Diseases (CID).
The project sits at the intersection of infectious diseases, microbiology, antimicrobial therapy, immunology, microbiome-host interactions, and translational medicine. The postdoctoral researcher will investigate the immunological changes of novel antimicrobials in primary cells in response to bacterial infection, with extensive in vitro work, cell culture, molecular biology, bacteriological methods, gut barrier function, immune responses, and microbiome interactions in people living with HIV.
Funding: the scholarship is tax-free, paid in 12-month blocks and disbursed every six months. The initial duration is one year, with the possibility of extension for another year.
Eligibility highlights: applicants need a PhD (or equivalent), substantial wet-lab experience, primary cell culture, flow cytometry, molecular biology, BSL-2 experience, microbiome research experience, strong publication record, and excellent English. The call is specifically for foreign researchers coming to Sweden; people already resident in Sweden or who completed part of their education in Sweden are not eligible.
How to apply: submit a CV, publication list, and a one-page summary of current work in English or Swedish via the Varbi recruitment system. The deadline is 2026-11-06.
