About this position
Karolinska Institutet (KI), Sweden, is advertising a postdoctoral scholarship in stem cell transplantation and spinal cord injury within the Li Research Group at the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society, Division of Neurogeriatrics.
The project focuses on how stem and progenitor cells respond to the injured spinal cord environment and how their survival, differentiation, integration, and regenerative potential can be improved. The research combines experimental spinal cord injury models, stem cell transplantation, gene perturbation, and molecular profiling using single-cell and spatial omics. The group also works with CNS development, neural regeneration, organoid models, and translational neuroscience.
Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent and strong hands-on experience in experimental spinal cord injury models and/or spinal cord surgery, stem/progenitor cell culture, in vivo experimentation, and molecular/cellular biology. Experience with CRISPR or other perturbation methods, organoids, advanced imaging, quantitative analysis, and single-cell/spatial omics is an advantage. Good English communication skills and the ability to work independently in an interdisciplinary environment are expected.
The scholarship is for one year with a possibility of extension, and may be granted for up to two years in total. The amount is tax free and paid out on a six-month basis. The position is located at BioClinicum, Solna Campus in Sweden.
To apply, prepare a CV, publication list, and one-page summary of current work in English, then submit via the Varbi recruitment system before the deadline.

What's required
Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent, or be able to complete the doctorate before the intended start date. The post is aimed at a highly motivated experimental researcher with documented hands-on experience in experimental spinal cord injury models and/or spinal cord surgery, stem or progenitor cell culture, and in vivo experimentation with tissue collection and downstream histological or molecular analyses. Strong interest in stem cell transplantation, gene perturbation, and molecular profiling is required, along with the ability to independently plan experiments, troubleshoot protocols, analyse data, and contribute to scientific writing. Good English communication skills and collaborative ability are expected. Experience with cell transplantation, CRISPR or other gene perturbation, organoid models, single-cell or spatial omics, advanced imaging, quantitative analysis, and FELASA or equivalent animal science training are advantageous.
How to apply
Prepare the required documents in English: a complete CV including thesis defence date and thesis title, a complete publication list, and a one-page summary of current work. Submit the application through the Varbi recruitment system.
