About this position
FEUP (Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto) is offering 1 Research Initiation Grant within the NUTRILIX project: “Technological advances in nutrient recovery and PFAS treatment in sanitary landfill leachates.” The work is based in Porto, Portugal, at the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering.
The project focuses on Environmental Engineering and Chemical Engineering, with a practical research plan centered on ammonia/ammonium recovery from landfill leachates using an oscillatory flow reactor (OFR). The selected candidate will help optimize continuous precipitation/crystallization conditions, including variables such as oscillation frequency, amplitude, temperature, and leachate flow rate.
This opportunity is aimed at students enrolled in a higher technical professional course, bachelor’s, integrated master’s, or master’s degree in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, or related areas. A bachelor’s degree holder enrolled in an eligible non-academic course integrated with an HEI/R&D setting may also apply. Foreign degrees must be formally recognized under Portuguese rules by contract signing.
The grant lasts 4 months initially, with a predicted start in November 2026, and may be renewed only within the project period. The stipend is €701.12/month, paid by bank transfer. Applications are evaluated by curricular assessment and interview, with emphasis on academic background, grades, and relevant experience.
Apply online at apply.up.pt using reference NUTRILIX-BII-CRISTALIZAÇÃO-2-BOLS-FEUP-26-23. Required documents include a motivation letter, degree certificates with grades, a detailed CV, and an honour declaration confirming eligibility under FCT grant rules.
