About this position
The Plasmas and Space Propulsion Team at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid invites applications for two postdoctoral fellow positions as part of the ERC-funded ROCINANTE project. This ambitious 5-year project aims to unravel and control the non-linearly oscillating structures and turbulence in electrodeless plasma thrusters, paving the way for highly efficient in-space propulsion devices and new research directions in active plasma control.
Position ROCINANTE-P1 focuses on the experimental development and instrumentation of a large plasma source, with the goal of characterizing and analyzing plasma fluctuations. Position ROCINANTE-P2 centers on the development of an advanced Particle-In-Cell simulation framework in Julia, applying it to the numerical study of plasma fluctuations. Both fellows will play a key role in guiding PhD students and collaborating closely to achieve the project's scientific objectives.
Successful candidates will join a dynamic, international, and highly qualified research team, benefit from one-to-one mentoring, and have access to the resources needed to advance their research careers. The positions offer a 2-year contract, extensible by one year, with opportunities for international conference travel and a flexible working environment. The project is funded by the ERC Horizon Europe programme.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related field. For P1, strong design or laboratory experience is required; for P2, significant numerical experience is essential. Candidates should demonstrate leadership in research, strong communication and teamwork skills, and proficiency in English. International experience is desirable.
