About this position

Assistant Professor (post-doc) position at the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw, within a collaborative project on developing an innovative high-throughput platform for functional screening of human pancreatic endocrine cells.

The project is part of TEAM NET FENG.02.03-IP.05-0113/24 and is funded by the Foundation for Polish Science. It is carried out by a consortium involving Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, the University of Warsaw, and the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. The University of Warsaw team is led by Dr. Tomasz Kamiński, with the broader research direction also involving Prof. Małgorzata Borowiak and Prof. Józef Dulak.

The research topic is highly relevant to diabetes research, preclinical studies, in vitro disease modelling, and drug testing. The platform under development uses a novel high-throughput flow system for culturing differentiating pancreatic cells on a microscale, aiming to improve accuracy, standardization, and efficiency in screening and therapy development.

Project responsibilities include culturing and differentiating pancreatic β-cells from pluripotent stem cells, including microreactor-based cultivation; preparing libraries for next-generation sequencing and analysing sequencing data; and validating screening outcomes using targeted gene and/or promoter editing. The role also includes broader academic duties such as scientific publishing and securing research funding.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in biology or a related field, strong publication achievements, international research experience, and relevant technical skills in microscopy, flow cytometry, cell culture, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and NGS workflows. Experience with iPSCs, CRISPR/Cas9, and single-cell sequencing is considered an advantage. Excellent English is required.

The appointment is full-time, based at the Institute of Biochemistry, Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw in Warsaw, Poland. The employment starts on 1 November 2026 for 17 months, with a possible extension. Salary is PLN 14,000–16,000 gross per month plus additional annual remuneration and a service-length allowance.

Applicants must fulfill the requirements of Article 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science, hold a Ph.D. in biological sciences or a related field by the application deadline, and have significant scientific achievements evidenced by well-cited publications, invited lectures or seminars, and international experience such as conferences, international projects, collaborations, or joint publications. A research plan outlining personal scientific development is required. Required competencies include microscopy, flow cytometry, cell culture, and molecular biology techniques, including preparation of genomic libraries for next-generation sequencing (NGS), as well as experience analyzing sequence data with bioinformatics tools. Experience with stem cells, especially induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), is an advantage; familiarity with CRISPR/Cas9 and single-cell sequencing is also beneficial. Research mobility, experience in securing research funding, and experience in technology transfer, patenting, or industry collaboration are desirable. Excellent English is required.
