About this position

Karolinska Institutet is advertising a PhD position in Hematopoiesis and Stem Cell Biology within the research group of Sidinh Luc at the Division of Clinical Immunology, Department of Laboratory Medicine. The project focuses on fundamental mechanisms regulating hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) function and heterogeneity, the transformation of normal HSCs into leukemic stem cells, and the cellular and molecular drivers of leukemia development.

The doctoral project specifically investigates how HSC heterogeneity and aging influence the development and characteristics of leukemic stem cells, with emphasis on BCR-ABL1–driven leukemias such as CML and Ph+ ALL. The student will combine experimental and computational approaches, including flow cytometry, mouse models, in vitro/in vivo assays, single-cell sequencing, and bioinformatics. The role also includes data analysis, presentation, and active participation in a collaborative scientific environment.

Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree or equivalent is required, together with English proficiency equivalent to English B/English 6. At least one year of hands-on experimental experience is required. Experience in hematopoiesis/hematology is advantageous, and experience with animal models, advanced flow cytometry, omics methods, and bioinformatics is desirable.

Funding and terms: this is a doctoral studentship with a contractual salary for up to 4 years full-time. KI notes access to a salary scale for doctoral students, free gym access, and reimbursements for medical care.

How to apply: submit the application through the Varbi recruitment system. Include a personal letter, CV, degree projects and publications if any, other documentation showing relevant skills, and documents proving both general and specific eligibility. The application can be written in English or Swedish.

Deadline: 14 September 2026.
