The program is designed for ambitious researchers who want to build an independent career and prepare a strong ERC Starting Grant application or an equivalent competitive funding application.

Successful candidates will join one of several research groups for 3 to 6 years and work on frontier biomedical questions in areas such as cancer, immunology, chemical biology, epigenetics, metabolism, genomic medicine, aging, and translational medicine. The advertised projects span AI-powered bioinformatics and bioengineering, tissue immunology and CAR T cell engineering, chromatin and translational control in pediatric cancer, tissue remodeling during aging, pediatric leukemia biology, transporter biology and drug discovery, aging-related disease mechanisms, pediatric sarcoma initiation, ribosome-mediated regulation in pediatric solid tumors, therapy resistance in pediatric cancer, and gene regulation in neuroblastoma.

The environment is highly collaborative and strongly translational, with close links to hospital settings, physicians, clinical researchers, and industry partners. The program includes extensive career development and leadership training, plus support for scientific writing, visual communication, entrepreneurship, project management, data science, and ERC grant preparation. The position is full-time and offers a competitive postdoc salary of EUR 5,014.30 gross per month, paid 14 times per year, together with full insurance and relocation support for international hires.

Applicants must hold a PhD, or expect to have the PhD awarded by the start date. The PhD defense date must be no earlier than 2024, and candidates must have at least one first-author publication by the time they start. The program is open to applicants from natural sciences and medical sciences, including molecular biology, biomedical research, bioinformatics, biochemistry, and bioengineering backgrounds.

Applications are submitted online and must include a cover letter with research interests and preferred group(s), a CV, academic transcripts, and the contact details of three referees. Applicants will also be asked to record a short video explaining their motivation. The deadline is 31 August 2026 at 23:59 CET, and interviews are scheduled for October 2026. Start date is 1 February 2027.
