About this position

The University of Cologne is advertising a doctoral position in Gene Expression Regulation in the Uhlirova Lab at the Institute for Genetics within CECAD. The successful doctoral candidate will investigate the crosstalk between transcription and pre-mRNA splicing under physiological, stress, and disease conditions; mechanisms underlying spliceosome assembly and functional plasticity; why certain transcripts, cells, and tissues are especially sensitive to aberrant splicing; and how spliceosome malfunction contributes to loss of tissue homeostasis, premature aging, and disease.

This position is designed for a highly motivated and curious PhD candidate who wants to lead an independent research project while contributing to collaborative work in an international team. Experience with model organisms, especially Drosophila and/or mouse and cell culture, is preferred. Additional strengths such as multi-omics, protein purification, biomolecular interaction assays, computational modeling, and quantitative image analysis are desirable.

The position is available immediately, is part-time (25.89 hours per week), and is funded for three years. Compensation is based on TV-L remuneration group 13 in the German public sector.
