Doctoral researcher in Machine Learning Security & Testing at the University of Luxembourg, within the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) and the SERVAL research group.

This PhD project sits at the intersection of Agentic AI, AI Security, Trustworthy AI, Software Engineering, and Cybersecurity. The selected doctoral researcher will investigate software engineering practices for machine learning, define quality and security principles for machine learning systems, and design technical testing algorithms to assess these systems in real-world conditions. The work contributes to both foundational research and practical platforms and demonstrators developed with industrial and public-sector partners.

The broader initiative aims to support the reliable deployment of AI systems by creating practical evaluation tools, including technical testing platforms for AI. Current research themes in the group include AI agents and computer-use agents, robustness and trustworthiness of AI systems, evaluation and benchmarking, runtime monitoring and governance, formal specification and verification, AI systems for enterprise and cybersecurity applications, and AI compliance and risk assessment.

The position is based at the University of Luxembourg’s Kirchberg Campus. The university describes itself as multilingual, international, and interdisciplinary, with strong links to professional sectors, European institutions, innovative companies, and other non-academic partners. The post is offered as a fixed-term doctoral contract for 36 months, with a full-time workload of 40 hours per week.

Funding is available through the doctoral contract, with a yearly gross salary of EUR 43,445 for every doctoral researcher at the University of Luxembourg.

Eligibility highlights include a Master in Computer Science with a major in machine learning, software engineering, or software security. Applicants should have strong programming and analytical skills. Industry experience in ICT is an advantage. The university also requires fluent written and spoken English, and applicants must show at least B2-level proficiency in the language of the thesis.
