About this position
Doctoral Researcher (PhD Student) position at the University of Eastern Finland, UEF Business School, Kuopio campus, Finland.
This is a full-time, fixed-term PhD opening starting in January 2027 for three years. The post sits in the Management of Transformation in Market 4.0 project, which is funded by the Research Council of Finland. The project studies how digital-platform ecosystems and collaborative market structures are reshaping business, competition, and organizational change. The academic focus may draw on management, marketing, and/or international business theories, with empirical work often connected to the retailing sector, though other settings may also be possible.
The successful candidate will collect case-study data from industry experts and decision-makers, gather secondary data, analyse evidence, engage with relevant literature, theorize findings, publish research in top-tier journals, and participate actively in the IBS research group and a multidisciplinary consortium.
Eligibility highlights include a suitable higher university degree (or equivalent foreign qualification), excellent written and spoken English, and a background or strong interest in platforms and ecosystems or related settings. A Master’s degree in Management studies, International business, or Marketing is expected. The chosen candidate must also apply separately for the right to pursue postgraduate studies in the Doctoral Programme of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies, and must have that right before employment begins.
The salary follows the Finnish university salary system. The job-related salary element is based on levels 2–4, approximately EUR 2,331.67–2,907.24, plus a personal salary element of 6–50% depending on doctoral stage and performance.
