About this position

KTH Royal Institute of Technology invites applications for a doctoral student position in Application-Level Synthesis for Electronic Systems Design. The project focuses on developing a robust Application-Level Synthesis (ALS) tool to compose applications from pre-synthesised Algorithm Implementations using High-level Synthesis. A key innovation is targeting a Coarse Grain Reconfigurable fabric based on Silicon Lego (SiLago) bricks, which enables calculation of physical design-aware cost metrics during design space exploration. The SiLago framework is actively used in EU, IMEC, and national projects, supporting real-life industrial applications and next-generation CMOS technologies.

The successful candidate will be supervised by Professor Ahmed Hemani and will join a dynamic research environment at KTH, a leading international technical university in Stockholm, Sweden. The position is full-time, with a monthly salary according to KTH's doctoral student salary agreement, and includes attractive employee benefits. The employment is for up to four years, with possible renewal, and offers opportunities for professional development, training, and participation in administrative tasks (up to 20%).

Eligibility requires a second cycle degree (master's or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science/Engineering, or completion of at least 240 higher education credits (including 60 second-cycle credits). Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in digital systems design and verification in HDL, a strong background in computer architecture, programming, data structures, and compilation techniques. English proficiency equivalent to English B/6 is mandatory, along with strong communication and presentation skills. Candidates must not already hold a doctoral degree. Personal attributes such as goal orientation, perseverance, collaboration, and analytical skills are highly valued during the selection process.

Applications must be submitted through KTH's recruitment system by 5 March 2026. Required documents include a CV, application letter (max 2 pages), certified copies of diplomas and grades, proof of language proficiency, and representative publications or technical reports. Translations into English or Swedish are needed if documents are not originally issued in these languages. The recruitment process may involve security clearance if the position is classified as security-sensitive.

KTH is committed to equality, diversity, and equal opportunities, offering a creative and dynamic environment for research and innovation. Join KTH to contribute to advancing sustainable society and benefit from excellent working conditions and support for personal growth.
