About this position

KTH Royal Institute of Technology invites applications for a doctoral student position in Electronics Systems Design, focusing on the development of the SiLago (Silicon Lego) VLSI design framework as part of the CMOS 2.0 consortium. The project aims to advance robust VLSI design methodologies, emphasizing composition by abutment for inherently timing- and DRC-clean designs. SiLago will also underpin Design Space Exploration (DSE) at multiple levels, contributing to both EU and national research initiatives, with funding from IMEC and collaboration among leading European universities.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic research environment in Stockholm, Sweden, under the supervision of Professor Ahmed Hemani. The position offers full-time employment for up to four years, with a monthly salary and comprehensive employee benefits as per KTH's doctoral student salary agreement. The doctoral student will have access to a creative and supportive workplace, with opportunities for professional growth and participation in training and administrative tasks (up to 20% of the role).

Eligibility requires a master's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science/Engineering, or at least 240 higher education credits (with 60 at second-cycle level), or equivalent knowledge. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in digital systems design and verification in HDL, a strong background in computer architecture, and experience with EDA tools for logic and physical synthesis, full custom design, circuit level design, analysis, and SPICE simulation. Candidates must not already hold a doctoral degree. Excellent communication and presentation skills in English (spoken and written) are mandatory, with English proficiency equivalent to English B/6. Personal attributes such as goal orientation, perseverance, collaboration, professionalism, and analytical skills are highly valued.

Applications must be submitted via KTH's recruitment system by 25 February 2026. Required documents include a CV, application letter (max 2 pages), diplomas, grades, certificates of language requirements, certified translations if applicable, and representative publications or technical reports (with abstracts and web links for longer documents).
