About this position
KTH Royal Institute of Technology invites applications for a doctoral student position in High-Level Synthesis for Electronic Systems Design. The project centers on the development of a robust High-Level Synthesis (HLS) tool within the innovative SiLago framework, which is inspired by Lego-like modularity and is actively used in EU and national projects as well as industrial applications. The HLS tool will target CGRA (Coarse-Grained Reconfigurable Array) fabrics and leverage SiLago’s unique capability to incorporate physical design-aware cost metrics during design space exploration, aiming to build a library and implement commonly used functions for next-generation CMOS technologies.
The position is supervised by Professor Ahmed Hemani and is part of multiple Chips JU projects. The research environment at KTH is dynamic, creative, and internationally recognized, offering excellent working conditions, employee benefits, and opportunities for professional growth. As a doctoral student, you will be employed full-time for up to four years, with a monthly salary according to KTH’s doctoral student salary agreement. You will also have access to a workplace with many employee benefits and may perform certain tasks such as training and administration up to 20% of your role.
Eligibility requires a second cycle degree (such as a master's) or equivalent, or at least 240 higher education credits with at least 60 at second-cycle level. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in digital systems design and verification in HDL, a strong background in computer architecture, programming, data structures, and compilation techniques, and competence or potential to acquire competence in optimization in discrete space. Candidates must not already hold a doctoral degree. Strong communication and presentation skills in English (spoken and written) are mandatory, with English B/6 or equivalent required. Personal skills such as goal orientation, perseverance, collaboration, professional approach, and analytical ability are highly valued.
Applications must be submitted through KTH’s recruitment system by the deadline of 21 February 2026. Required documents include a CV, application letter (max 2 pages), certified copies of diplomas and grades, proof of language proficiency, and representative publications or technical reports. Documents not in English or Swedish must be translated and certified. Security clearance may be required for some positions.
