The doctoral project is part of CLOSE – Consequences of Local Service Expansions, a research project examining the long-term social and economic consequences of introducing new neighbourhood services in Swedish cities and urban neighbourhoods. The project is strongly connected to themes in human geography, urban geography, urban planning, neighbourhood change, segregation, gentrification, residential mobility, local economy, and spatial/quantitative analysis.
The research uses Swedish longitudinal register data covering 1995–2025, with precise geographical coordinates for individuals, workplaces, services, and firms. The doctoral student will work with quantitative analyses of register data, spatial data, and longitudinal processes of change. Possible emphasis areas include residential mobility and population composition, socio-economic neighbourhood change, service provision, and local business dynamics.
Eligibility requires general doctoral admission criteria plus specific entry requirements in Human Geography/Geography: 90 credits in the subject, including at least 15 credits of degree project at advanced level (or related subject). Applicants must also show English proficiency equivalent to English 6/English B or an internationally recognised test.
