About this position

Fully funded MSc and PhD openings in Hypersonic Modeling are available at the University of Calgary in the Computational Fluid & Structural Mechanics Group.

The project focuses on multi-fidelity simulation and design of hypersonic vehicles, with research topics including thermo-chemical nonequilibrium, turbulence and transition in hypersonic flows, thermal stress and ablation, high-speed fluid-structure interaction, analysis and design of hypersonic gliding vehicles (HGV), and reduced-order modeling and machine learning for HGV simulation.

Students will work with an in-house finite element-based code for hypersonic flows in thermo-chemical non-equilibrium and may engage with industry partners, international research institutes, and activities connected to the NATO Working Group on Hypersonic Turbulence and the AIAA Hypersonic Transition Workshop.

Ideal applicants have a strong background in numerical methods and fluid mechanics/aerodynamics, experience with CFD using FEM and/or FVM, and practical programming skills in Fortran, C/C++, Python, or similar languages. Motivation for high-impact research, publication, and conference presentation is emphasized. International applications are welcome.

The positions are fully funded and are expected to begin in September 2026, with a negotiable start date. No application deadline is listed in the post.
