Fully Funded MSc and PhD Positions in Hypersonic CFD at the University of Calgary

Fully funded MSc and PhD positions in Hypersonic CFD are available at the University of Calgary. The Computational Fluid & Structural Mechanics Group (CFSMgroup), led by Artem Korobenko , is recruiting multiple students to work on multi-fidelity modeling and simulation of hypersonic vehicles . The research is centered on advanced computational fluid dynamics and high-speed aerothermodynamics, with topics including thermo-chemical nonequilibrium , turbulence and transition in hypersonic flows , thermal stress and ablation , high-speed fluid-structure interaction , and reduced-order modeling and machine learning . The project includes collaboration with industry partners, international research institutes, and activities connected to the NATO Working Group on Hypersonic Turbulence and the AIAA Hypersonic Transition Workshop . This makes the opportunity especially relevant for students interested in aerospace simulation, high-speed flow physics, and data-driven modeling for complex engineering systems. Who should apply: motivated applicants with a strong background in fluid mechanics/aerodynamics and numerical methods , experience with CFD using FEM and/or FVM , and programming ability in Fortran, C/C++, Python, or similar . MSc and PhD applicants are both welcome. English test results should be included if applicable. Funding and timing: the positions are fully funded , and the expected start date is September 2026 (flexible). How to apply: email [email protected] with a CV, unofficial transcripts, English test results if applicable, and a 1-page cover letter describing your relevant experience and research interests. Please indicate the project in the subject line. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an online interview.

Fully Funded MSc and PhD in Hypersonic Modeling

Fully funded MSc and PhD openings in Hypersonic Modeling are available at the University of Calgary in the Computational Fluid & Structural Mechanics Group . The project focuses on multi-fidelity simulation and design of hypersonic vehicles , with research topics including thermo-chemical nonequilibrium , turbulence and transition in hypersonic flows , thermal stress and ablation , high-speed fluid-structure interaction , analysis and design of hypersonic gliding vehicles (HGV) , and reduced-order modeling and machine learning for HGV simulation. Students will work with an in-house finite element-based code for hypersonic flows in thermo-chemical non-equilibrium and may engage with industry partners, international research institutes, and activities connected to the NATO Working Group on Hypersonic Turbulence and the AIAA Hypersonic Transition Workshop . Ideal applicants have a strong background in numerical methods and fluid mechanics/aerodynamics , experience with CFD using FEM and/or FVM , and practical programming skills in Fortran, C/C++, Python , or similar languages. Motivation for high-impact research, publication, and conference presentation is emphasized. International applications are welcome. The positions are fully funded and are expected to begin in September 2026 , with a negotiable start date. No application deadline is listed in the post. To apply, email an up-to-date CV , unofficial transcripts , English test results if applicable , and a 1-page cover letter describing relevant experience and research interests. Include the project name in the subject line.
