About this position

Fully funded MSc and PhD positions in Hypersonic CFD are available at the University of Calgary. The Computational Fluid & Structural Mechanics Group (CFSMgroup), led by Artem Korobenko, is recruiting multiple students to work on multi-fidelity modeling and simulation of hypersonic vehicles. The research is centered on advanced computational fluid dynamics and high-speed aerothermodynamics, with topics including thermo-chemical nonequilibrium, turbulence and transition in hypersonic flows, thermal stress and ablation, high-speed fluid-structure interaction, and reduced-order modeling and machine learning.

The project includes collaboration with industry partners, international research institutes, and activities connected to the NATO Working Group on Hypersonic Turbulence and the AIAA Hypersonic Transition Workshop. This makes the opportunity especially relevant for students interested in aerospace simulation, high-speed flow physics, and data-driven modeling for complex engineering systems.

Who should apply: motivated applicants with a strong background in fluid mechanics/aerodynamics and numerical methods, experience with CFD using FEM and/or FVM, and programming ability in Fortran, C/C++, Python, or similar. MSc and PhD applicants are both welcome. English test results should be included if applicable.

Funding and timing: the positions are fully funded, and the expected start date is September 2026 (flexible).

How to apply: email [email protected] with a CV, unofficial transcripts, English test results if applicable, and a 1-page cover letter describing your relevant experience and research interests. Please indicate the project in the subject line. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an online interview.
