The second PhD, Strengthening Mortgage Portfolio Resilience to Physical Climate Risks, is based in the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management and focuses on the Netherlands. It studies how climate risks propagate from homes to mortgage portfolios and how different climate-risk owners and mitigation instruments can reduce damages and inequality. This project also uses ABMs, stakeholder engagement, and a tailored homeowner survey, with collaboration across TU Delft and the financial sector. Supervisors include Theodoros Chatzivasileiadis, Zac Taylor, and Tatiana Filatova.
Eligibility highlights: MSc-level background in computational science, economics, geography, spatial/environmental/financial economics, engineering & policy analysis, or a related field; strong programming skills (Python, Julia, etc.); experience with statistical/econometric analysis; ABM experience is especially important for the mortgage-resilience project; GIS/spatial modeling is an asset; fluent English required. Dutch is not obligatory.
