About this position

The ACDC Research Group at the University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney) is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD position in photovoltaics and solar energy research.

The project area spans advanced photovoltaic research, including solar cell characterisation, defects, contacts, imaging, PV systems, and AI/ML applications for photovoltaics. Example topics include novel tandem characterisation techniques, machine learning for luminescence and thermal imaging, and machine learning for utility-scale PV applications. The final PhD topic will be tailored to the successful candidate’s background, interests, and strengths.

This opportunity is especially welcoming to women and candidates from underrepresented backgrounds in engineering and STEM. The group highlights a supportive, collaborative, and innovative research environment focused on improving photovoltaic device stability, reliability, efficiency, and cost, as well as broader applications such as agri-photovoltaics, building-integrated photovoltaics, and IoT.

Funding includes a fully funded competitive stipend scholarship plus an international conference travel allowance. The post is for a PhD/HDR application at UNSW Sydney, with the deadline stated as 14 August for the international T2 2027 and domestic T1 2027 intakes.

Interested candidates should contact the ACDC Research Group through the website and then complete the UNSW HDR application process before the deadline.
