Fully Funded PhD Opportunities in Climate Uncertainty, Risk and Decisions (UNRISK CDT) University of Leeds in United Kingdom

PhD opportunity at the University of Leeds in spatio-temporal statistical modelling for extreme rainfall events , climate prediction, and rare-event analysis. This project develops advanced generalised linear/additive mixed models with covariate-dependent, dynamically estimated thresholds to improve prediction of when and where extreme rainfall will occur. The research sits within the UNRISK CDT and connects with work relevant to climate resilience , meteorology , data science , and high-perform...

PhD opportunity at the University of Exeter in Mathematics and Statistics focused on marine heatwaves , climate science , statistics , data science , and mathematical modelling . The project investigates how extreme sea temperatures vary across space and depth in the northwest European Shelf seas, and how the probability and intensity of marine heatwaves may change under future climate scenarios. The research combines extreme value theory , generalised additive models , machine learning, and hig...

PhD opportunity at the University of Leeds on climate uncertainty, compound events, and water-system impacts in Eastern England . This project sits within the UNRISK CDT and focuses on how compound climate events and High Impact Low Likelihood (HILL) events interact with natural and human water systems. The research combines climate science , hydrology , environmental engineering , data analysis , data science , mathematical modelling , and decision making under uncertainty to improve climate ri...

PhD opportunity at University College London in Statistical Models for Extreme European Hail Events with Challenging Data Structures . This project sits in the Department of Statistical Science and is supervised by Prof Robin Mitra and Dr Emma Simpson , with external partners at Liberty Mutual . The research focuses on statistics , extreme value analysis , Bayesian methods , missing data , machine learning , climate science , and meteorology . The project aims to build new statistical methods fo...

PhD opportunity at the University of Leeds in Reducing Uncertainty in Aerosol-Driven Monsoon Variability and Climate Risk . This project sits in the School of Earth & Environment and focuses on climate science , earth science , environmental science , atmospheric science , regional climate modelling , aerosol physics , monsoon variability , data analysis , statistics , scientific computing , machine learning , and mathematical modelling . Asian monsoons are vital for water resources, agriculture...
