About this position
Fully funded PhD positions are available at the University of the Basque Country (EHU) for the ERC-funded S-OIL project, led by Daniel Chavez. The project examines oil, the state, energy transition, decarbonisation, national oil companies (NOCs), and the politics of fossil-fuel decline across the Global South.
Successful candidates will conduct in-depth fieldwork in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, and will be supported with a salary, funded research stays at partner institutions, and substantial fieldwork funding. The project is especially interested in researchers from Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean.
Preferred academic backgrounds include political economy, development studies, anthropology, geography, or related disciplines. The project seeks applicants interested in the politics of fossil fuels and the state, especially those who want to move beyond technocratic and market-driven framings of decarbonisation.
The post says formal applications will open through EHU's Doctoral School. When the call opens, applicants will likely need transcripts, a CV, and a statement of research interests. For more information, contact Aritz Landeta at [email protected].
More details are available on the project website and linked pages.
