About this position

Funded PhD opportunity at Coventry University in the Centre for Discoveries in Life Sciences through the Midlands Integrative Biosciences Training Partnership (MIBTP), a BBSRC-funded doctoral training partnership involving Coventry University, the University of Warwick, the University of Birmingham, the University of Leicester, Aston University, and Harper Adams University.

The project is titled Epigenetic Regulation of Skeletal Muscle Ageing: Uncovering the Role of Histone Deacetylases in Muscle Health and Resilience. It investigates how histone deacetylases (HDACs) regulate skeletal muscle maintenance, adaptation, regeneration, proteostasis, mitochondrial function, and resilience to ageing-associated stress. The work uses human-relevant in vitro models and analytical methods such as RNA sequencing, immunoblotting, immunocytochemistry, and cellular respiration analysis.

This is a funded PhD project open to students worldwide. Funding includes full tuition fees at UK rate, a tax-free annual stipend (currently £21,805 for 2026-27), a travel/conference budget, consumables budget, and use of a MacBook Pro. Coventry University will fund the difference between UK and international tuition fee rates.

Applicants should have at least a 2:1 first degree in a relevant discipline, with 60% minimum in the project element or equivalent and 60% overall module average. International applicants must meet English language requirements: IELTS Academic 7.0 overall with 6.5 in each section, or TOEFL iBT 95 overall with 21 in each section.

To apply, first check eligibility, then complete the ED&I form (which also serves as an expression of interest), and finally submit the application form. For administrative questions, contact [email protected].
