About this position

The Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) is inviting applications for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Past, Present and Future Marine Climate Change group.

The project interest is centered on the ocean carbon cycle, including the open ocean and coastal seas, with a strong emphasis on machine learning, Earth observations, and data-driven reconstruction of air-sea CO2 exchange.

Research themes in the group include marine biogeochemistry, ocean carbon and heat fluxes, coastal carbon dynamics, climate-relevant variability, and the response of marine systems to extremes such as marine heat waves. The group also works with in-situ observations, satellite data, and model outputs to improve understanding of the marine carbon cycle and its role in climate.

This is a postdoctoral opportunity under the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships scheme. Applicants must hold a PhD by the deadline and meet the MSCA mobility and research-experience rules. The call is open now, and the deadline stated in the post is 9 September 2026.

Funding under MSCA PF typically covers a living allowance, mobility allowance, family allowance where applicable, and support for research, training, networking, management, and indirect costs.

Interested candidates are encouraged to contact Alizée Roobaert and/or Peter Landschützer to discuss project ideas and fit with the VLIZ group before submitting an application with the host organisation through the Funding and Tender Opportunities Portal.
