About this position

The NOMIS-ISTA Fellowship Program is an interdisciplinary postdoctoral fellowship jointly launched by the NOMIS Foundation and the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA). It is designed for exceptional postdoctoral researchers who want the freedom to pursue big unanswered questions and high-risk ideas at the intersection of two or more scientific disciplines.

Fellows join ISTA’s open, collaborative research environment and benefit from dedicated dual mentorship by world-class established scientists. The program emphasizes scientific integrity, leadership training, and broader career development support, while also providing access to cutting-edge scientific service units and research and travel funds. Teaching at ISTA is encouraged, though not required.

The call invites proposals in biology, neuroscience, physics, chemistry, computer science, data science, mathematics, earth science, astro sciences, and related disciplines. The position is a three-year fully funded postdoctoral appointment with a minimum gross annual salary of EUR 76,986.

Eligibility requires that applicants have already earned their PhD by the time of recruitment, which is within eight months of the application deadline. Applicants are preferably expected to have initial postdoctoral experience and/or interdisciplinary training, although outstanding candidates who do not meet those preferences may still be considered. Shortlisted candidates must be available for a remote interview in November 2026, and successful fellows must begin within six months of notification.

The application deadline is 10 September 2026 at 14:00 CEST. The position is based at ISTA in Austria. For further details and application instructions, consult the program page or contact [email protected].
