About this position

Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH), Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB), in Heraklion, Greece, invites applications for one Postdoctoral Researcher (Ref. ORZ-0916) in the research group of Prof. Panagiotis Moschou.

The position is linked to a Horizon Europe – ERC Consolidator Grant project entitled “Limited proteolysis mechanisms in plants for selective protein translation to improve heat tolerance”. The project explores novel protein–RNA interaction rules, RNA/protein assemblies, and condensates that may regulate environmental adaptation, development, and physiology in plants.

The lab uses interdisciplinary approaches including genetics, molecular methods, genomics, advanced cell biology, and confocal microscopy. The postdoc will work independently and in collaboration with group members on ERC work packages, with a focus on fundamental cellular mechanisms, plant biology, protein biochemistry, nucleic acid research, and related physiological processes.

Applicants should have a strong academic background in Biology, Life Sciences, Chemistry, or a relevant field, with a PhD, excellent English, and more than three years of active research experience at a top level. The call also highlights desirable experience with genetic data, programming, and plant work, plus a strong publication or research output record. Candidates who can demonstrate creativity, independence, and excellent research communication are especially encouraged.

The appointment is full-time, temporary, and initially 12 months with the possibility of extension. The salary is described as internationally competitive, and the budget indicates up to €3,000 per month including tax and social security. The call also notes that postdocs are encouraged to pursue fellowships, and that applicants may benefit from the Widening Countries Scheme for EU fellowship applications.

The application deadline is 8 August 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Athens). Interested applicants should submit the required documents by email to the address provided in the call. Selection will be carried out by a three-member committee, with possible interview by in-person meeting or teleconference.
