About this position
This PhD opportunity at the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) is focused on the intersection of immunology and metabolism, specifically investigating how metabolic pathways regulate immune cell function and tolerance. The projects are funded by FNRS and FNR and aim to uncover new mechanisms in immunometabolism that can be leveraged to improve immune therapies for cancer and inflammatory diseases. Two distinct PhD projects are available: one will dissect the role of novel metabolic targets in T cell activation, mitochondrial function, and metabolic fitness using both in vitro and in vivo approaches; the other will explore how microbial metabolites influence regulatory T cell (Treg) function and immune homeostasis, including participation in high-throughput screening to identify bioactive metabolites and link them to their microbial origins and immune effects.
The research integrates metabolic, immunological, and translational approaches, offering candidates the chance to work with cutting-edge technologies such as automated high-throughput screening platforms, flow cytometry, molecular cloning, and CRISPR/Cas9. The successful candidate will join a collaborative, international research environment and contribute to advancing knowledge in immune regulation, cancer immunology, and chronic inflammation.
Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Immunology, Molecular Biology, or Biomedical Sciences, with a strong background in immunology and cellular/molecular biology. Experience in relevant laboratory techniques is preferred, and candidates should demonstrate motivation, curiosity, and strong communication skills in English. A language proficiency certificate (minimum B2 level) is required for the thesis language. LIH is committed to gender equality and diversity in recruitment and career progression.
Applications should be submitted online by 31 January 2026, including a cover letter and CV, referencing MC/PhD1025/DB/ALL4.
